About SSB

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB; transl. Armed Border Force) is a border guarding force of India deployed along its borders with Nepal and Bhutan. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The force was originally set up under the name Special Service Bureau in 1963 in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War to strengthen India’s border areas against enemy operations.

SSB SI Education Qualification

SI (Pioneer)
  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized university or Institute.
SI (Draughtsman)
  • Matriculation pass or equivalent from a Board.
  •  Two-year National Tradesmen certificate issued by a
    recognized Industrial Training Institute or equivalent recognized institution; and
  •  One year certificate course or one year experience in
    AUTOCAD from a Government Institution or a recognized institution.
  • Desirable:- One year experience in Draughtsmanship from a recognized Architect Consultant Firm of Cate o ‘B’ and ‘C’.
SI (Communication)
  • Degree in Electronics and Communication or Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or Science with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized University or Institution.
SI (Staff Nurse/ Female)
  • Should have passed 10+2 in Science or equivalent from a recognized University or Board or Institution.
  • Should have a year’s Diploma in General nursing from an
    Institution recognized by the State or Central Government.
  • Must be registered with the Central or State Nursing Council.

SSB SI Recruitment 2023 Selection Process

The candidates who wish to apply for the exam must know the complete selection process to crack the exam. The selection process of the SSB Sub Inspector exam involves the following stages:

  •  Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)In PET, candidates need to perform a race of 1.6 km in 6 minutes 39 sec, and 800m in 4 minutes for males and females respectively.In PST, candidates must pass a particular standard of height and chest measurement.
  • Written Examination: A Common Entrance Test will be conducted of 150 marks in two parts.
  •  Document Verification
  • Detailed Medical Examination
  • The final result on the basis of the above tests
