About RRC ER
Eastern Railway (ER), one of the 19 zones of Indian Railways, has its headquarters at Fairley Place, Kolkata, and comprises four divisions: Howrah, Malda, Sealdah, and Asansol, each led by a Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). The division name corresponds to the city of its headquarters. ER manages two of India’s largest rail complexes—Howrah Junction and Sealdah—and has the highest number of A1 and A Category stations, including Howrah, Malda Town, Sealdah, Asansol, Kolkata, Durgapur, and others. RRC ER Recruitment 2024 Eligibility Criteria
Age:
- Candidates must be at least 15 years old and no more than 24 years old as of the application cut-off date.
- Age will be verified based on the Matriculation certificate or birth certificate from a government-recognized authority.
- Documents like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts, service records, etc., will not be accepted.
- Upper age limit relaxations:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC-NCL: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Candidates seeking relaxation must provide relevant documents during verification, or they will be disqualified.
- Ex-Servicemen:
- Additional relaxation of 10 years, based on service in Defence Forces, plus 3 years, for those who served a minimum of 6 months.
- Ex-servicemen who already joined the Civil service cannot avail of this benefit.
- Children of ex-servicemen and Armed Forces personnel must provide Discharge Certificates and Pension Papers or Serving Certificates of their parent (as applicable).
Educational Qualification:
- Candidates must have passed the 10th class or its equivalent (10+2 system) with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized board.
- Must possess the National Trade Certificate in the notified trade from NCVT/SCVT.
Medical Fitness:
- Candidates must meet the physical fitness standards prescribed under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.
- A medical certificate, in the prescribed format, must be presented at the time of document verification.
- The certificate must be signed by a government-authorized doctor (not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of Central/State Hospital).
RRC ER Recruitment 2024 Selection Process
- Selection is based on a merit list created from the average of marks in Matriculation and ITI, with equal weightage given to both.
- Tied candidates are ranked by age; if the age is also tied, the earlier Matriculation pass will be prioritized.
- Shortlisted candidates for Document Verification (DV) will be 1.5 times the available slots.
- Candidates are assigned to one unit and trade based on merit, and cannot be considered for other options.
- Final selection is based on merit, medical fitness, and adherence to railway rules.
- The Railway Administration’s decision is final in case of disputes.

- Exemption: No fee for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates.
