About NIOT
Established in November 1993 as an autonomous society under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) has been striving toward the development of cost-effective Indian technologies to help better explore and exploit our coastal and ocean resources promisingly. NIOT, headquartered in Chennai, is overseen by a council and run by the director. NIOT was established with the main objective of developing dependable indigenous technologies to solve engineering problems related to the exploitation of living and non-living resources around the Indian exclusive economic zone ·which is roughly two-thirds of India’s land area.
