About ISRO Course
The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a part of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under the Department of Space, Government of India, stands as a premier educational institute dedicated to training professionals in Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, and GNSS Technology for applications in Natural Resources, Environmental, and Disaster Management. Established in 1966 as the Indian Photo-interpretation Institute (IPI), it is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Over the years, IIRS has expanded its training and education programs to cater to various segments, from mid-career professionals to fresh graduates and policymakers, aligning them with the evolving needs of the user community. Additionally, IIRS offers e-learning programs on Remote Sensing and Geoinformation Science through its platform (http://elearning.iirs.gov.in).
This course offers a deep dive into the theoretical underpinnings of geospatial technology as applied to modeling urban environments. In an age where rapid urbanization reshapes our cities, the ability to accurately model and analyze urban landscapes is crucial for making informed decisions and fostering sustainable development. Participants will gain essential knowledge to utilize geospatial technology effectively in comprehending, evaluating, and managing urban environments. Across five days, the course will cover a spectrum of topics, ranging from mapping land use patterns to scrutinizing urban sprawl and assessing environmental impacts. By the course’s conclusion, participants will have a holistic understanding of leveraging geospatial technology to inform urban planning, policymaking, and advancing sustainable development agendas.
