About the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is a vital maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency in India, overseeing territorial waters, contiguous zones, and exclusive economic zones. Established on 1 February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978, it operates under the Ministry of Defence.
The Coast Guard collaborates closely with the Indian Navy, Department of Fisheries, Department of Revenue (Customs), Central Armed Police Forces, and State Police Services to ensure effective maritime security and safety.

ICG Recruitment 2024 Eligibility Criteria
Education Qualification
1) Navik (General Duty): Candidates should have passed Class 12th with Mathematics and Physics from an education board recognized by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE).
2) Yantrik: Candidates should fulfill one of the following criteria:
- Class 10th passed from an education board recognized by COBSE and Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering of 3 or 4 years duration approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). OR
- Class 10th and Class 12th passed from an education board recognized by COBSE and Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering of 2 or 3 years duration approved by AICTE.
Age Limit
Candidates applying for the post of Navik (GD) and Yantrik should be:
- Minimum 18 years old
- Maximum 22-year-old Candidates should be born between 01 March 2003 and 28 February 2007 (both dates inclusive).
Note: Upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates is applicable only if the posts are reserved for them.
ICG Recruitment 2024 Selection Process
The selection process for candidates applying to the Indian Coast Guard for Navik (GD) and Yantrik positions involves several stages:
Stage I: Computer Based Examination
- Document verification
- Biometric recording (left thumb)
- Verification of signature and identification mark
- Identity check including live image capture
- Written test based on the post applied for
Stage II: Qualifying Examinations
- Assessment and Adaptability Test (OMR-based, qualifying)
- Physical Fitness Test (1.6 Km run, Squat ups, Push-ups)

Candidates need to meet the laid down medical standards during the medical examination and perform satisfactorily in training to be recruited into the Indian Coast Guard.
ICG Recruitment 2024 Salary
Pay, Perks, and Other Benefits for Indian Coast Guard positions are as follows:
(a) Navik (General Duty):
- Basic pay of Rs. 21,700/- per month (Pay Level 3)
- Dearness Allowance and other allowances based on nature of duty/place of posting as per prevailing regulations
(b) Yantrik:
- Basic pay of Rs. 29,200/- per month (Pay Level 5)
- Yantrik pays an allowance of Rs. 6,200/- per month
- Dearness Allowance and other allowances based on nature of duty/place of posting as per prevailing regulations
These allowances are subject to the nature of duty and place of posting as per Indian Coast Guard regulations.
ICG Recruitment 2024 Training
Training for Navik (General Duty) and Yantriks at INS Chilka is expected to begin in early/mid-April 2025. It will comprise both marine training and professional training in the assigned trade or branch under service criteria. Candidates may be discharged as UNSUITABLE if their development or conduct, including academic achievement, is poor during training. Furthermore, trainees may be terminated if falsifications are discovered in their online application or documentation at any point in the recruitment process.
