About the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) serves as the National Standards Body of India under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. Established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, which became effective on October 12, 2017, BIS operates with the Minister in charge of the Ministry or Department having administrative control as the ex-officio President of the organization. BIS boasts a workforce of over 500 scientific officers who serve as Certification Officers, Member secretaries of technical committees, and lab OICs.

Previously known as the Indian Standards Institution (ISI), the organization was formed under the Resolution of the Department of Industries and Supplies No. 1 Std. (4)/45, dated September 3, 1946. The ISI was registered under the Societies Registration Act, of 1860.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced the BIS Recruitment through GATE 2024 for various jobs of Scientist B in engineering disciplines. BIS Recruitment 2024 Selection Process

Selection Procedure

1. Short-listing Based on GATE Score:
   • Candidates are shortlisted for Personal Interview based on valid GATE 2022, 2023, or 2024 scores.
   • In case of a tie:
     • The higher percentile gets seniority (Percentile = (Number of Candidates Appeared in concerned GATE paper – All India Rank of Candidate in the concerned GATE paper)/ Number of Candidates Appeared in concerned GATE paper).
     • If further tied, the elder candidate gets higher seniority.
2. Personal Interview:
   • Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview after document verification.
   • The interview details will be communicated via email and the BIS website.
3. Final Merit List:
   • Selection is based on 85% weightage to GATE score and 15% to interview marks.
   • In case of a tie in aggregate marks:
     • A higher GATE score gets higher seniority.
     • If still tied, the elder candidate gets higher seniority.

BIS Recruitment 2024 Salary

Applicants selected for the Scientist-B position under BIS Recruitment through GATE 2024 will receive a competitive salary based on Pay Level 10 as per the Seventh Central Pay Commission. The gross emoluments at the time of joining are approximately INR 1,11,780 per month in Delhi. Additional details are as follows:

• Pay Level: Level 10
• Gross Emoluments (Approx.): INR 1,11,780 per month in Delhi
• Surety Bond: Minimum service of 3 years
• Reimbursement on Early Exit: 6 months’ emoluments
• Probation Period: 2 years
• Service Benefits: Leave, LTC, medical benefits, etc.
• Posting Location: Anywhere in India

1. Go to BIS website > ‘Career Opportunities’ > ‘Recruitment Advt./Result’ for Scientist-B.
2. Click ‘Link for Online Application by Candidates’. New users select “Create Your BIS Account”, enter details, and note the Application Number. Existing users can log in to apply.

• Form Fill-Up

1. Complete the application form.
2. Save progress with “SAVE AND CONTINUE” if needed.
3. Upload required documents: Photo, Signature, GATE Scorecard, and other certificates.
4. Verify identity with acceptable IDs (e.g., Aadhar, Passport).
