About AFCAT
The Indian Air Force (IAF), established on 8 October 1932, is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces, tasked with securing India’s airspace and conducting aerial warfare during conflicts. Originally formed as an auxiliary air force of the British Empire, the IAF was honored with the prefix “Royal” for its services during World War II. Following India’s independence in 1947, the Air Force continued to use the name Royal Indian Air Force under the Dominion of India. However, with India becoming a Republic in 1950, the prefix “Royal” was removed, and the force was officially named the Indian Air Force.
