The Cochin Shipyard launched its Mahe Class anti-submarine Warfare Shallow Water ships Malpe and Mulki on September 9, 2024, in Kochi, Kerala.
Malpe and Mulki are the fourth and fifth ships in the Mahe Class of Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft vessels built by Cochin Shipyard Limited.
The Mahe Class ships have been built indigenously, with around 80 percent of their content being Indian.
Under the Mahe Class ASW-SWC vessels, the first vessel launched was Mahe, the second was Malvan, the third was Mangrol, the fourth was Malpe, and the fifth was Mulki.
Six ships have been launched under the Arnala Class ASW-SWC so far.
The first ship of the Arnala Class was Arnala, the second was Androth, the third was Anjadip, the fourth was Amini, the fifth was Agray, and the sixth was Akshay.
The Akshay and Agray ships of the Arnala Class were launched in March 2024.

The first India-GCC Joint Ministerial Meeting for Strategic Dialogue took place on September 9, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
This meeting was the first Foreign Minister level discussion between India and the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The meeting was co-chaired by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar.
Qatar holds the Presidency of the GCC.
The GCC is a regional group that includes Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Approximately 89 lakh Indians work and live in the GCC countries.
The GCC countries have some of the world’s richest reserves of oil and gas and are a major source of oil and gas for India.
During 2023-24, the India-GCC trade totaled USD 161.59 billion.
India’s exports to GCC countries were USD 56.3 billion, while imports from GCC countries were USD 105.3 billion.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has inaugurated a Tobacco Cessation Clinic (TCC) in New Delhi.
The TCC is a collaborative effort between the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) and the Department of Pulmonary, Critical, and Sleep Medicine at AIIMS.
The primary focus of the TCC is to support individuals suffering from tobacco addiction.
AIIMS-Delhi Director Dr. M. Srinivas emphasized that the TCC is part of the Tobacco-Free AIIMS initiative.
Patients will be counseled by doctors about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
The clinic will be operational every Tuesday in rooms A-519 and A-526 on the fifth floor of the New Rajkumari Amrit Kaur OPD building.
Patients can register for treatment at 8:30 am on the ground floor of the A-wing of the building.

The PMMSY has focused on modernizing the fisheries sector, reducing post-harvest losses, enhancing cold chain facilities, and supporting fishermen through various financial and livelihood measures.
