Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy formally launched the Machilipatnam port works worth Rs 5,156 crore recently.
The port, with an initial cargo capacity of 35 million tonnes, will be completed in two years. The capacity of the 4-berth deep water port will be increased to 116 million tonnes as cargo traffic gradually increases.
The port will help develop Machilipatnam on the lines of developed port cities like Mumbai and Chennai as it will be connected by National Highway 216 and the Gudivada-Machilipatnam railway line soon.
This will increase the reach of the port and improve connectivity. The project is being implemented by the Machilipatnam Port Development Corporation Limited (MPDCL).

The BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2023 – badminton’s world championships in mixed teams – took place in Suzhou, People’s Republic of China, from 14–21 May.

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd’s (BSNL) 4G rollout plan has finally received an impetus after a long hiatus as Tata Consultancy Services-led consortium has bagged a Rs 15,000-crore contract from the PSU to deploy a 4G network for the state-run telco. In a regulatory filing, TCS told the stock exchanges on Monday that it has received an “advance purchase order” valued at over Rs 15,000 crore from BSNL.

Cricket icon Sourav Ganguly was appointed the brand ambassador of Tripura tourism, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Tuesday.

The announcement came after Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury met Ganguly at his residence in Kolkata along with state officials, and discussed the proposal.

The Khelo India University Games 2023 is scheduled to start on May 25 with four cities across the state of Uttar Pradesh set to host the multi-sport event.

A leading industrialist and philanthropist Karumuttu T Kannan (70), Chairman & Managing Director of Madurai-based Thiagarajar Mills Ltd, passed away on Tuesday morning in Madurai following a brief illness
He is survived by his wife Uma Kannan, daughters Visalakshi and Radha, and son Hari Thiagarajan, who is the executive director of Thiagarajar Mills.
Kannan is the son of the late industrialist and philanthropist Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, who founded the Thiagarajar Mills in 1936.
