Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra Tea got a European Union Geographical Indication Tag (GI tag) which will help promote the sale of the product in the European market.
This is an important certification that recognizes the tea as originating from a specific region. Once a product gets a GI tag, any person or company cannot sell a similar item under that name.
This tag is valid for a period of 10 years following which it can be renewed.
The other benefits of GI registration include legal protection for the item, prevention against unauthorised use by others, and promotion of exports.
Kangra tea is a type of tea that is grown in the Himachal Pradesh region of India. Since the middle of the 19th century, black tea and green tea have both been cultivated in the Kangra Valley. The production turned out to be successful in Palampur and Dharamshala.

LU Vice Chancellor Prof Alok Rai said” “It is a historic moment for us. At a time when we are striving to make it at an international level, hosting ISC will be a milestone.
LU has previously hosted the ISC in 1916, 1923, 1953, 1985 and 2002.
The largest gathering of scientists and students in the country, the ISC is an annual five-day event from January 3 to 7.

It is noteworthy that ‘Nagri Dubraj’ is the second crop of Chhattisgarh, which has got the Geographical Indication Registry Tag, i.e. GI Tag. Prior to this, the state has got GI tag for the Jeera Phool paddy variety.
It is known that in the meeting of the Geographical Indication Committee held in Gwalior on 29 November 2021, approval was given for giving GI tag to the ‘Nagri Dubraj’ variety of Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh.
It is known that in October 2021, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur sent the proposal of Nagri Dubraj for a GI tag.

Ministry of Defence, on Thursday, March 30, signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore for the procurement of 13 LYNX-U2 fire control systems for the Indian Navy.
The total cost of the procurement will be 1700 crores under Buy ( Indian- IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category.
LYNX-U2 System is a naval gun fire control system designed and developed indigenously and is capable of accurately tracking and engaging targets amidst sea clutter as well as air and surface targets.
The indigenously developed 4th generation systems will be installed on New generation off shore patrol vessels.
These will be built indigenously at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Goa Shipyard limited.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to hand over five terminated hydropower projects with a generation capacity of 2823 MW to two Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), as the the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the memorandum of agreement (MoA) to be signed with the CPSUs.
The MoA would be signed soon with the two CPSUs.
Officials said that the state Cabinet at its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu approved the MoA to be signed with the CPSUs for the development of hydropower in the state.
“This would pave the way to unlocking potential five hydropower projects with an installed capacity of 2820 MW. This will spur huge investment in the state and generate employment,” a state government official told the media.
