Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission (TNSRLM), on Tuesday, to foster the growth of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the State and provide them with vital financial support.

Under the terms of the MoU, TNSRLM will facilitate eligible SHGs for credit linkage with IOB.
This strategic collaboration aims to streamline access to financial resources for SHGs, enabling them to undertake entrepreneurial activities, expand their ventures, and contribute to the economic development of the State.

A boat tragedy occurred recently, around the Canary Islands in Spain. More than 30 migrants are feared dead after a small boat headed for Spain’s Canary Islands sank.
Canary Islands: • Located in the Atlantic Ocean. • It is about 1300 km South of mainland Spain and 115 km West of the African coast (Morocco).

The diamond was manufactured in a Surat factory in Gujarat, using a process that replicates the formation of natural diamonds beneath the earth’s surface.
India is a leading player in growing lab-grown diamonds, with exports reaching over $1.67 billion.
Lab-grown diamonds offer a more affordable alternative to natural diamonds and are considered eco-friendly.
They are around 20% cheaper than their naturally-formed equivalent India is the largest producer of lab-grown diamonds through CVD technology and contributes to nearly 25% of global LGD production.

The Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) on 23 June successfully concluded the 8th edition of the Global Pharmaceutical Quality Summit in Mumbai.
The theme for the Summit was, ‘Patient Centricity: New Paradigm of Manufacturing and Quality’.
The two-day Summit brought together industry leaders, global regulators, quality experts, and stakeholders to foster knowledge exchange and deliberate on important areas in shaping India’s pharmaceutical landscape.
Samir Mehta, Chairman, of Torrent Pharmaceuticals and President, of IPA, inaugurated the event. Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Health and Family Welfare addressed the summit.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the construction of the ‘Balidan Stambh’ in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on June 24.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined him at the park near Lal Chowk, the commercial center of Srinagar.
This memorial is a part of the Srinagar Smart City project and is a tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
During his visit, Shah also paid a visit to Karan Mahal, the former residence of Karan Singh, the last Yuvraj of Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, he met with a select group of individuals at the Police Golf Course, which offers a scenic view of Dal Lake, before returning to Delhi.

The Tamil Nadu Police has launched a helpline number for women travelling alone at night between 10 pm and 6 am. If they feel unsafe travelling alone, they can dial the number, and a police patrol vehicle will be made available.
The facility has been launched by the police to ensure women’s safety in the state, and it can be availed free of cost.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on June 25, conferred the country’s highest state honour “Order of the Nile” award on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Instituted in 1915, the ‘Order of the Nile’ is conferred upon Heads of state, Crown Princes, and Vice-Presidents who offer Egypt or humanity invaluable services.

The World Bank has approved a $255.5 million loan for improving the quality of technical education in government-run institutions in India.
Over the next five years, the project will support around 275 government-run technical institutions in selected States across the country, benefitting more than 350,000 students each year.
The Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education Project will support improving student skills and employability by focusing on better research, entrepreneurship, and innovation; and improving governance in technical institutions.
As part of the project, students will access upgraded curricula including emerging communication and climate resilience technologies.
