According to the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), the export of seafood from India in 2023-24 has recorded an all-time high of 17,81,602 Metric tonnes(MT) as compared to 17,35,286 MT in 2022-23.
However, in monetary value terms, there has been a decline in the value of seafood exports.
India exported seafood with Rs 60,523.89 crore or US$7.38 billion during 2023-24.
In 2022-23, the value of the seafood export was Rs 63,969.14 crore or US$ 8.10 billion.
The government of India had set an export target of $9.1 billion for seafood in 2023-24.

New Zealand’s left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult has announced his retirement from International Cricket after New Zealand’s final Group C match against Papua New Guinea at the 2024 T20 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Trent Boult made his international debut for New Zealand in 2011, and he represented the Black Cap (New Zealand team) in all the formats of the games – Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and T-20 Internationals.
He played in the first ICC World Test Championship final held at Lords, England, in 2021 against India.
Trent Boult took 317 wickets in 78 Test matches he played for the Black Caps.

The Northern Command of the Indian Army has ordered 550 indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured ASMI submachine guns worth Rs 4.26 crores.
This is the first such indigenously designed and manufactured weapon to be inducted into the Indian Army.
The ASMI submachine gun has been manufactured by the Hyderabad-based Lokesh Machine Limited.
After successfully delivering the submachine gun to the Indian Army, the company has also submitted guns to the National Security Guards (NSG), Assam Rifles, and Border Security Force (BSF) for testing.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that it will use the Miyawaki plantations method for afforestation on lands adjacent to the National Highways in the Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) areas to increase the green cover.
The afforestation initiative will be launched during the coming Monsoon season in 2024 and is expected to be completed by August 2024.
According to the NHAI, 53 acres of land have been identified for afforestation along the National Highway in and around the Delhi NCR areas.
The Miyawaki method of tree plantation is named after the Japanese botanist and plant ecologist Akira Miyawaki.
The Miyawaki method is based on the natural reforestation principle -using trees that are native to the area and replicating the natural forest regeneration principle.
The seedlings of the native plants are planted at very high densities. The saplings grow very fast and compete for light for photosynthesis purposes. Thus, initially, a dense forest grows in an area in 20 to 30 years, which would ordinarily take hundreds of years.

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in December 2008 to observe 19 June as World Sickle Cell Day.
The theme of the 2024 World Sickle Cell Day is “Hope through Progress: Advancing Sickle Cell Care Globally.”
It is a blood disorder that affects the red blood cells of the human body.
Due to irregular movement of the red blood cell in the body, the flow of oxygen in the body is reduced. It leads to Sickle Cell anemia.

PM Modi has officially inaugurated the new Nalanda University campus.
ASEAN members and ambassadors from 17 participating countries attended the inauguration.
The newly renovated campus is situated near the ancient ruins of the historic Nalanda University, the Buddhist Center of Learning until the 13th century.
Established by the Indian Parliament in 2010 with the Nalanda University Act, this university is located near the historic remains of Nalanda.
The Act originated from decisions taken in 2007 and 2009 at the Second and Fourth East Asia Summits.
Currently, Nalanda University grants 137 scholarships to international students, including those financed by the Bhutan Scholarship of the External Affairs Ministry, the Asean-India Fund, and Bimstec scholarships.
