Amarendu Prakash has been the new Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) since May 31. He was previously the Director (In-charge) of SAIL’s Bokaro steel plant.

On Wednesday, Latvia’s parliament elected long-serving Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics as the country’s next president, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins said.
Rinkevics will represent Latvia, a European Union and NATO member nation, at NATO’s Vilnius summit in July.

State Bank of India’s economic research department has upgraded its baseline forecast for FY24 GDP growth to 6.7 per cent from an earlier forecast of 6.2 per cent, continuing on the path of strong activity in FY23.

The ERD said demand rebalancing from private consumption to investment in FY23 will spur growth in FY24. It projected Q1 GDP growth at 7.8 per cent, Q2 at 6.5 per cent, and Q3 at 6.3%.

The gross Goods & Services Tax (GST) revenue collected in the month of May 2023 is ₹1,57,090 crore of which CGST is ₹28,411 crore, SGST is ₹35,828 crore, IGST is ₹81,363 crore (including ₹41,772 crores collected on import of goods) and cess is ₹11,489 crore (including ₹1,057 crores collected on import of goods).

The University of Edinburgh and the Indian Consulate in the UK collaborated to create the first open-access course in the Hindi language.
The course, entitled “Climate Solutions”, was developed with the help of translators and in partnership with the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute and the Government of India.
Professor Dave Ray, Executive Director of the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute, and other climate change experts collaborated to design and deliver the course.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Ahmednagar district will be named after warrior queen Ahilyabai Holkar.
The announcement was made during a program organised at the birthplace of Ahilyabai Holkar on her 297th birth anniversary at Chondi village in Ahmednagar district.
Ahilyabai Holkar, born in 1725, was a famous ruler of the Indore kingdom, known for her wisdom and compassion.

ONGC Videsh, a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, recently said that oil production from the Sakhalin-1 project in Russia is back from zero to a high of around 200,000 barrels per day (bpd).
ONGC expressed confidence that it would be able to retain its 20 per cent stake in the Sakhalin-1 project. ONGC Videsh also has a 26% stake in Russia’s Vankorneft, a company that owns Vankor Field and the North Vankor licence.
