Mohan Charan Majhi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was sworn in as the chief minister of Odisha by the state Governor, Raghubar Das, in a ceremony at the Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar.
He is the first BJP leader to become the chief minister of Odisha.
He is also the third tribal after Giridhar Gamang and Hemananda Biswal (both from the Congress party) to become the chief minister of Odisha.
Like President Draupadi Murmu, the 52-year-old Mohan Charan Majhi belongs to the Santhal tribe and is a four-time MLA.
He started his political career as a sarpanch from 1997-2000.
He represents the Keonjhar assembly constituency and was elected for the first time in 2000.
He was again re-elected from the same constituency in 2004, 2019 and 2024.

The first World Day Against Child Labour was observed by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on 12 June 2002 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Since then, 12 June has been observed across the world as World Day Against Child Labour.
The theme chosen by the ILO for the 2024 World Day against Child Labour is “Let’s act on our commitments: End Child Labour”.
In 1979, the government of India set up the Gurupadswamy Committee to study the issue of child labour and suggest measures to address it.

The 8th edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise(JIMEX-24) has started at Yokosuka, Japan.
The JIMEX-24 exercise is being hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF).

The Indian Navy’s indigenously built Stealth Frigate INS Shivalik is participating in the JIMEX -24 exercise.
The JMSDF is represented by its Guided Missile Destroyer JS Yugiri.
Veer Guardian is a joint military exercise of the Indian Air Force and the Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF).
The first Veer Guardian exercise was held at Hyakuri Air Base, Japan, from 12 to 26 January 2023.

The first ministerial meeting of the BRICS group of countries with the newly added members took place in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.
The two-day meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs/International Relations was hosted by Russia, as it is the current chairman of the BRICS.
At the 15th BRICS summit meeting, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 22 to 24 August 2023, six countries—Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)—were invited to join the BRICS group.
Argentina declined to join the group, while Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates joined the group on 1 January 2024.
Since Dr. S. Jaishanker was appointed the External Affairs Minister on 10 June 2024, India officially had no External Affairs Minister at the time of the start of the foreign ministers meeting.
Hence, India was represented by Dammu Ravi, the Secretary of (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
The BRICS foreign Minister meeting was hosted by the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov.
