Alby D’Cruz, Kerala’s first Ashoka Chakra recipient, passes away at 87 The country honoured him with the Ashoka Chakra for his extraordinary bravery during the civil strife with the Naga rebels in the 1960s.
In a ceremony held in New Delhi on April 30, 1962, President Dr Rajendra Prasad, presented the Ashoka Chakra to Lance Naik Alby.
The Ashoka Chakra is India’s highest peacetime military decoration, awarded for bravery and courageous action.

The Karnataka government has advised women to apply for Shakti smart cards to avail of free travel in state-run buses, starting from June 11.
The government has already issued a set of guidelines on the ‘Shakti’ scheme, which is one of the major poll promises by the Congress party in Karnataka.
According to the transport department of Karnataka, women can apply for Shakti smart cards through sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in from June 11.

What all buses are excluded?
The Shakti scheme applies only to the ordinary state-run bus services of Karnataka. Airavat, Airavat Club Class, Airavat Gold Class, Ambari, Ambari Dream Class, Ambari Utsav, Fly Bus, Vayu Vajra, Vajra, Non-AC Sleeper, Rajahamsa and EV Power Plus AC buses are excluded in this scheme.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal has launched an integrated Water Resources Action Plan-2023-25 under Amrit Jal Kranti at Chandigarh.

HDFC Bank has introduced a new credit card — Millennia — offering cashback. The card comes with contactless technology allowing customers to ‘tap and pay’ via a POS machine.

The HDFC Millennia Credit card offers cashback and reward points on Amazon, Flipkart, and other e-commerce platforms. In addition, the card also offers 1 per cent cashback on offline purchases, smart EMI, and lounge access for free, among others.

Millennia credit cards can be used for Amazon, Flipkart, BookMyShow, and Cult. fit, and Myntra, to earn 5 per cent cashback points. In every billing, a maximum reward of ₹1000 would be offered.

The Ministry of Defence informed that the first India-France-UAE Maritime Partnership Exercise has started in the Gulf of Oman.

New Generation Ballistic Missile ‘Agni Prime’ was successfully flight-tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on June 07, 2023.
During the flight test, all objectives were successfully demonstrated.

This was the first pre-induction night launch conducted by the users after three successful developmental trials of the missile, validating the accuracy and reliability of the system. Range Instrumentation like Radar, Telemetry and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems were deployed at different locations, including two down-range ships, at the terminal point to capture flight data covering the entire trajectory of the vehicle.
Senior officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command witnessed the successful flight test, which paved the way for the induction of the system into the Armed Forces.
