Tenzing Yangki from Arunachal Pradesh, who racked the UPSC Civil Services Examination-2022 by securing 545th rank, has been allowed IPS to become the first female IPS officer of the state, but her cadre is not known yet. Yangki had earlier cleared the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) exam in 2017.

The state boasts of 11 later entry IPS officers, who have been promoted to the rank of inspector general of police (IGP). After the elevation of 2004 batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer C K Mein to IGP rank on 31.03.22 by the MoHA, Arunachal till then had 11 IGPs, including Chukhu Apa, Tussar Taba, Apur Bitin, Kime Kaming, PN Khirmey, Sang Norbu Mosovi, Nabam Gungte, Hibu Tamang, Isaac Pertin, Mari Riba and C K Mein.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the city’s first ‘water ATM’, which provides drinking water treated using the reverse osmosis (RO) process, in Mayapuri Phase 2.
The Delhi government has established four such water ATMs as part of a pilot project, said a senior official, adding that plans are afoot to set up a network of 500 water ATMs across the city.
Anyone with a water ATM card, issued by the Delhi Jal Board, would be able to draw up to 20 litres of water daily from these ATMs free of cost.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed new legislation that deals a significant blow to the LGBTQ+ community in the country.
The act, passed unanimously by both houses of parliament, strictly prohibits individuals from officially or medically changing their gender, further marginalizing Russia’s embattled LGBTQ+ population.
Russia’s stringent measures against LGBTQ+ individuals have been on the rise over the past decade.
It began with President Putin’s emphasis on promoting “traditional family values,” a stance that found support from the Russian Orthodox Church.
In 2013, the Kremlin passed legislation that forbade any public endorsement of “nontraditional sexual relations” among minors.

The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to launch the Mukhyamantri Khet Suraksha Yojana across the state, with the primary objective of protecting crops from stray animals.
The scheme involves the installation of a solar fence with a low 12-volt current to deter animals without causing harm.
When animals come into contact with the fence, a mild shock will be triggered, and a siren will sound, effectively deterring animals such as nilgai, monkeys, pigs, and wild boars from causing crop damage in the fields.

Indian Space Research Organization has announced the launching of PSLV-C56 which will carry Singapore’s DS-SAR satellite with 6 co-passenger satellites on 30th July at 6:30 AM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

DS-SAR satellite that weighs 3600 kg was developed by DSTA, representing Singapore’s Government and ST Engineering. The satellite would be launched into a Near Equatorial Orbit (NEO) at a 5-degree inclination and 535 km altitude.

DA-SAR Satellite carries a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). This allows the DS-SAR to provide for all-weather day and night coverage and is capable of imaging at 1m resolution at full polarimetry.

BJP’s S Phangnon Konyak on Tuesday became the first woman member from Nagaland to preside over Rajya Sabha. On July 17, she became the first ever woman member of the Rajya Sabha to be appointed to the panel of vice-chairpersons.

“Marking a significant moment in history, the first woman member from Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha, S Phangnon Konyak presided over the House today,” an official statement said.

She is also the first woman to be elected to Rajya Sabha from Nagaland (April 2022) and the second woman from the state to be elected to either house of the Parliament or the state assembly.

The finance ministry has accepted the Central Board of Trustees’ recommendation to set the annual interest rate on the Employees’ Provident Fund at 8.15% for FY23, marking a slight increase from the previous year.

The Central Board of Trustees had on 28 March recommended setting an 8.15% interest rate on provident funds for FY23, a 0.05% hike in the interest rate from FY22, when it stood at 8.10%. The interest rate stood at 8.50% in FY21.

By the “Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009,” Nagaland has been officially declared as a Lumpy Skin Disease (LDS) positive state. This declaration comes after positive cases of LDS were detected in four districts of the state.

As per a study, lumpy skin disease is a poxviral disease with significant morbidity in cattle. Although the mortality rate is generally low, economic losses result from loss of condition, decreased milk production, abortions, infertility and damaged hides.

Veteran journalist-author-columnist Shirish Kanekar passed away this afternoon due to a heart attack at a hospital, his close friend and journalist Arun Puranik said.
Kanekar was 80.
