The 5th Helicopter and Small Aircraft Summit will be held on 25 July 2023 at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.
The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Pawan Hans Limited, and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and Shri Jyotiraditya M.Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, will inaugurate the summit.
The event aims to foster collaboration between industry stakeholders and policymakers, so that effective decisions can be taken that will further boost India’s civil aviation industry.

The theme of the summit is “Reaching the last mile: Regional Connectivity through Helicopters and small aircraft”.

US President Joe Biden has nominated Admiral Lisa Franchetti to lead the US Navy.
Admiral Franchetti would become the first female Joint Chiefs of Staff member if confirmed by the Senate.
• Currently serving as the 42nd Deputy Chief of Naval Operations from September 2022.
• Previous roles include director of strategy, plans, and policies of the Joint Staff (2020–2022) and commander of the United States Sixth Fleet (2018–2020).
• Made history as the second woman to be promoted to the rank of four-star admiral in the US Navy.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe visited India twice on 20 and 21 July 2023, during which several important agreements were signed between the two countries, which is considered very important in terms of relations between the two countries.

Delegation-level talks were held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President on 21 July 2023 in New Delhi.

This year both countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Apart from this, the Tamil community of Indian origin is completing 200 years of its arrival in Sri Lanka.

Justice Ashish J Desai was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath of office to Justice Desai in a function organized at Raj Bhavan.
Justice Desai succeeds Justice S V Bhatti who was recently elevated to the Supreme Court.
61-year-old Desai was born in Gujarat and began his career as an advocate in his home state in 1985 and was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in 2011.

Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, achieved a milestone in his political career, by breaking the record of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu as the second longest-serving chief minister of a state in India with a tenure of 23 years and 139 days. Patnaik, the five-time Chief Minister of Odisha, took charge on March 5, 2000, and has been holding the post for the last 23 years and 139 days.
While Jyoti Basu holds office for 23 years 137 days from June 21, 1977, to November 5, 2000.
Former Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Kumar Chamling still holds the record of being the longest-serving Chief Minister of the Indian State, he served the state for over 25 years from December 12, 1994, to May 26, 2019.

Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved Mission Shakti Scooter Yojana, under which interest subvention on bank loans up to Rs 1 lakh will be provided to beneficiaries to purchase a scooter.
Odisha Mission Shakti Minister Tukuni Sahu said around 75,000 SHG community support staff and nearly 1,25,000 SHG federation leaders will be benefited under the new scheme.

A seven-year-old girl of Indian origin has received the British Prime Minister’s Points of Light award for her outstanding efforts in helping the environment.
Moksha Roy began volunteering for a United Nations sustainability initiative against microplastic pollution when she was only three years old. She is now recognized as the world’s youngest sustainability advocate.

Moksha has been actively involved in various campaigns for sustainability, including raising money to support needy children.
She has worked hard to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals in schools and has even communicated with world leaders to encourage their support.

Namgyal C Khampa, India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, has been concurrently accredited as India’s next Ambassador to Somalia. She would have her residence in Nairobi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced in a press release.
Namgyal Khampa also worked in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York from 2009 to 2013.
While in New York, she was elected to serve as a Member of the United Nations Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) from 2011 to 2013.
Khampa has also served as India’s representative on the Executive Board of the UNDP and UNFPA during her tenure in New York.

Former Australia and New South Wales wicketkeeper Brian Taber has died at the age of 83.

Taber, who played 16 Test matches for Australia between 1966 and 1970, passed away on Friday.

He made his Test debut against South Africa in Johannesburg where he claimed seven catches and a stumping. He would go on to also face England, India and West Indies during his career.

His highest Test score of 48 came against West Indies at Sydney in 1969 in a match Australia won by 382 runs.

On completing 32 years of illustrious service to the nation, Indian Naval Ship Kirpan has been decommissioned from the Indian Navy and handed over to Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) today at Cam Ranh, Vietnam.
The Decommissioning and Handing Over Ceremony of INS Kirpan to VPN was presided over by Adm R. Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy and Rear Adm Pham Manh Hung, Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff, VPN.

▪ Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the ‘CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal’ in New Delhi.
▪ The Supreme Court ordered the transfer of Rs 5000 crore from the “Sahara-SEBI Refund Account” to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) for payment to valid depositors.
▪ ‘CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal’ has been developed to facilitate the submission of valid claims by genuine Sahara Group of Co-operative Societies depositors.

▪ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of Uttar Pradesh-based United India Co-operative Bank.

▪ On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/ her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of ₹5 lacks from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) subject to the provisions of the DICGC Act, 1961.

▪ The government has appointed Sat Pal Bhanoo as one of the managing directors of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).
▪ He has been appointed in place of Siddhartha Mohanty who has been appointed as chairman of LIC in April.
▪ Bhanoo’s appointment is effective from the date of assumption of charge and up to the date of his superannuation on December 31, 2025, or until further orders.
Life Insurance Corporation of India is an Indian multinational public sector life insurance company headquartered in Mumbai. LIC has its branches overseas. It is India’s largest insurance company as well as the largest institutional investor with total assets under management worth ₹45.7 trillion as of March 2023.

The Income Tax department observes July 24 every year as Income Tax Day or ‘Aaykar Diwas’, to commemorate the introduction of the provision of income tax in the country.
On the same day in the year 1860, Income tax was originally introduced in India by Sir James Wilson, to compensate for the losses incurred during the first war of independence.
This is the 163rd anniversary of Income Tax Day.

Headquartered in New Delhi, the Income Tax department is responsible for direct tax collection for the Government of India.
It functions under the Department of Revenue in the Ministry of Finance and is headed by an apex body called the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
