India defeated Kuwait 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out to lift the SAFF Championships trophy 2023 held at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
India recorded its win for the ninth time in the SAFF Championships trophy. At that time India’s FIFA ranking was 100th.

The Papanasam Dam, also known as Karaiyar Dam, is 49 kilometres (30 mi) away from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, India.
The dam is used to irrigate 86,107 acres (34,846 ha) of paddy fields in the Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts.

Recently the inauguration of a new hydropower project is held by CM MK Stalin near this dam.

Uma Chhetri has become the first woman cricketer from Assam to be selected for the Indian women’s team.
The BCCI Women’s selection committee has announced the Indian squad for the three-match T20I and ODI series against Bangladesh, starting on 9th July respectively.
Uma Chhetri hails from Bokakhat, Assam and she is a talented wicket-keeper batsman. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian team for the upcoming Bangladesh tour.

The U.N. Security Council will hold a first-ever meeting on Artificial Intelligence (AI) threats on July 18th.
The meeting organized by the United Kingdom, will see global leaders discussing the potential threats of artificial intelligence (AI) to international peace and security.
This was announced by the UK’s ambassador to the UN, Dame Barbara Woodward.

Aadhav Arjuna from Tamil Nadu has been selected as the president of the Indian Basketball Federation.

The Basketball Federation of India elections were held in Delhi on Wednesday. Aathav Arjuna, president of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association, contested for the post of president.
Out of 48 State Basketball Association Executives across India who were eligible to vote, 41 voted. Aadhav Arjuna won by securing 38 votes.

The seventh edition of the bilateral Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2023, JIMEX 23 hosted by the Indian Navy, is being conducted at Visakhapatnam from 6th July.
This edition marks the 11th anniversary of JIMEX, since its inception in 2012. Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force units and Indian Naval ships are participating in the exercise.
Our correspondent reports that JIMEX 23 will witness the participation of INS Delhi, India’s first indigenously built Guided Missile Destroyer, and INS Kamorta, an indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette. The guided-missile destroyer JS Samidare and its integral helicopters will represent Japan Maritime Self Defence Force.

Indian Bank, in partnership with National E-Governance Service Limited (NeSL), has rolled out e-BG (electronic bank guarantee) services under Project WAVE to reduce the number of old paper-based processes.

The e-BG rollout will reduce the turn-around time of the bank issuance and delivery to the beneficiary within a few minutes from 3-4 working days, reports said. In addition, e-BG by Indian Bank would replace physical stamp paper and physical signatures of customers with e-signature and e-stamps.

Indian Bank has also introduced a new facility under Project WAVE, to ensure fully end-to-end digitally pre-approved business loans, for an easy and smooth loan process. To note, the facility is available to process a loan of ₹25 lakh.

Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for the fifth consecutive year, according to the ‘Global Peace Index 2023’ report released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
Yemen, Syria, Russia, and South Sudan are followed by Afghanistan in the Global Peace Index 2023 report.
India stands at 126 ranks out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index.
While Iceland has the most peaceful country followed by Denmark and Ireland.

Among the nine NCP MLAs who took oath as ministers on Sunday is Aditi Tatkare, MLA from Shrivardhan in Raigad district. She is the first woman minister in the Shinde-Fadnavis government.

She was elected as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Shrivardhan on October 24, 2019. Hailing from Roha town in Maharashtra, Aditi took the oath as an MLA on November 26, 2019.
During her tenure as minister, Aditi Tatkare has handled various departments, including tourism, information and public relations, law, judiciary, food and civil supplies, water resources, energy, and finance, among others.

The Greater Chennai City Police (GCP) has launched the ‘Police Drone Unit’ for aerial surveillance over vast areas and quick detection of criminal activities.
The project, which costs approximately Rs 3.6 crore according to a press release by the GCP, was inaugurated by outgoing Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu, in the presence of Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jaiswal at Besant Avenue, Adyar.

In a surprising move, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) chairman and social rights activist Harsh Chouhan resigned with eight months left before his term ended. This has left the tribal rights body headless and functioning with a lone member.

Chouhan, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, resigned on June 26 and his resignation was accepted by the President of India last week.
He had been appointed as NCST chairman in February 2021 for a three-year term. The resignation follows a run-in with the environment ministry in October 2023.

India has taken a significant stride forward in the field of telecommunications, with the acquisition of over 200 patents for 6G technology. The Communications and IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced the announcement during the launch of the Bharat 6G Alliance in New Delhi.
