Boxing Federation of India (BFI) appointed veteran coach Dmitry Dmitruk as the Indian boxing team’s foreign coach for the next two years.

Before taking up the role in India, he was the high performance coach of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) as well as the Irish National Junior and
Youth Teams for the last 12 years.

The 47-year-old played a key role in elevating Ireland boxing team’s performances and nurturing young talent over the course of his stint in Ireland.

Asian Development Bank President Masatsugu Asakawa on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and conveyed ADB’s intention to provide USD 20-25 billion
resources over five years to advance India’s aspirations for fast, inclusive, and green growth.

In a release, the Manila-based multilateral lending agency said its President in his meeting with the Prime Minister discussed a range of issues, including ADB support to
India’s infrastructure and social development and climate actions.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday extended by one-and-a-half year the term of the 22nd Law Commission
which is mandated to identify laws which are “no longer relevant” and recommend their repeal.

According to a note issued by the Cabinet, the term of the panel has been extended up to 31 August, 2024.

The commission’s three-year term ended on Monday.

Private sector bank HDFC Bank and UAE-based Lulu Exchange have signed an MoU to strengthen cross-border payments between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

In the first phase of the partnership, Lulu Exchange’s expertise and regulatory framework would be utilised to launch a digital inward remittance service titled ‘RemitNow2India’.

Axis Bank has enabled cross-border transactions in real-time via the UPI Network following the move by India and Singapore to link their quick payment systems, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and PayNow, easing the process of fund transfers between individuals in the two Asian nations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong virtually launched this cross-border connectivity.

Axis Bank will act as the settlement bank for peer-to-peer foreign inward remittance transactions initiated through PayNow by the Liquid Group in Singapore. A remitter in Singapore using the mobile application of Liquid Group can initiate a remittance by entering the UPI ID of the intended recipient in India.

The partnership will allow users from both countries to make seamless money transfers.

The Indian district of Kollam in the state of Kerala has become the country’s first constitution literate district. The announcement was made by Kerala Chief Minister
Pinarayi Vijayan.

The district’s success is the result of a seven-month campaign launched by the Kollam district panchayat, District Planning Committee, and the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) to educate citizens about the country’s laws and their rights.

The Namami Gange Executive Committee has approved nine Projects, worth over one thousand two hundred Crore rupees for Pollution abatement in Ganga Basin and Ghat Development.

Out of these projects, seven pertain to the abatement of pollution in the Ganga Basin and two to ghat development. The decision was taken during the 47th meeting of the Executive Committee of the National
Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the chairmanship of NMCG Director General G. Asok Kumar.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti said that under the approved projects various Sewage Treatment Plants and other work will be done to clean the river Ganga, in several States, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and
Madhya Pradesh.

It said the Ghat development in Bihar, one project for the development of Atal Ghat Manjhi, Saran, Bihar was approved at an estimated cost of ten crore rupees.

BJP national president JP Nadda launched a book “Modi: Shaping a Global Order in Flux” in Chanakyapuri here.

The bank’s solar plant installations now have a 300 KWp combined capacity, which will result in a 20% reduction in energy use.

India – Japan joint training exercise “Dharma Guardian” will be conducted at Camp Imazu
in the Shiga province of Japan from 17 February – 2 March.
▪ It is the 4th edition of the joint military exercise “Dharma Guardian” between India and
Japan.
▪ Soldiers from the Garhwal Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army and an infantry regiment
from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) are participating in the exercise.

Uttar Pradesh Higher Education minister Yogendra Upadhyay has inaugurated the Taj

Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu has been selected as the external auditor of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Geneva, for a four-year term till 2027.

The CAG is currently the external auditor of the World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency, Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Inter Parliamentary Union.

The selection of the CAG followed a rigorous process that involved a selection panel where the ILO had invited bids from all countries. Based on the technical experience and other criteria, the ILO shortlisted three supreme auditors, India, Canada and the UK.
