Cambodia’s king has approved the government’s nomination of Hun Manet, the eldest son of long-serving Prime Minister Hun Sen, to become the next Premier, according to a decree published on August 7.

The decree was shared on the Telegram channel of Hun Sen, who will be stepping down after 38 years in power.
The appointment requires the approval of the newly elected National Assembly, expected later this month, following the huge win by the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) in last month’s election, where it won 120 of 125 parliamentary seats in a contest in which all viable opposition was sidelined.

Vaibhav Taneja, 45, was on Monday named as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Elon Musk-led Tesla after the automotive and clean energy company’s previous finance chief Zachary Kirkhorn announced that he was stepping down.
Currently the head of accounting, Taneja joined Tesla through a $2.6 billion deal for Solarcity in 2016.
Taneja has also been serving as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) since March 2019 and as the Corporate Controller since May 2018 at Tesla.
He also served as the Assistant Corporate Controller at Tesla between February 2017 and May 2018.

Guyana will purchase two Dornier aircraft from India, said Capt. Gerald Gouveia, the South American nation’s National Security Adviser.
The Dornier, built by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, suits Guyana’s needs for aircraft to improve connectivity, he said in an interview, adding Guyana is also interested in purchasing patrol vessels, a fleet of armoured vehicles and radar systems.
Guyana and India will also step up personnel training to improve military-to-military contacts.

The Rajasthan Cabinet approved the proposal of a high-level committee to form 19 new districts and 3 new divisions in the State.
Rajasthan will now have a total of 50 districts which is 3rd most in India to have Districts and 10 divisional headquarters.
According to CM Ashok Gehlot formation of new districts will improve governance and bring relief to people who have to cover long distances to go to the district headquarters.
The new districts are like, Jaipur has been divided into Jaipur and Jaipur Rural.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs implemented the ‘Naya Savera’ scheme also known as the ‘Free Coaching and Allied’ scheme.
Objective – To assist students/candidates belonging to the six minority communities namely Sikh, Jain, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and Parsi by way of special coaching for qualifying examinations. The coaching period under the scheme ranged from 3 months to 2 years.

The 31st edition of the Malabar multilateral exercise will be held in Sydney from August 11-21.
It was started in 1992 as a bilateral naval exercise between India and US Navy.

It was expanded in 2007 with the participation of Japan, Singapore and Australia.
Japan became a permanent partner in 2015. It was expanded into a trilateral format with the inclusion of Japan in 2015.
In 2020, the Australian Navy joined the Malabar Exercise, making it a quadrilateral naval exercise.
Quad
It is a four-nation alliance of India, Australia, USA and Japan which was established in 2007.
The idea of Quad was first mooted by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The Kerala assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution asking the Centre to not implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country without reaching a consensus on the controversial issue.
The resolution was presented by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and was supported by all parties belonging to the Left Democratic Front and United Democratic Front. Although the Bharatiya Janata Party is in favour of implementing UCC, it doesn’t have representation in the state assembly.
Kerala is the second state in the country after Mizoram to pass such a resolution in the legislative assembly against the proposed code.

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) proposed a rule that would limit smartphone use for people under the age of 18, the latest step by Chinese regulators to curb young people’s internet use.

The proposed law would mandate the creation of a “minor mode” on all smartphones that would limit when children can access the internet.
China has invested considerable resources in digital surveillance, with the CAC passing extensive laws to monitor and limit internet access.
Last year, the Freedom House ranked China the world’s worst country for digital freedom for the eighth year in a row.

A finance ministry order said that Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, a 1988 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official is the Chairman of CBIC with the status of special secretary to the government of India.
Agarwal’s appointment is effective from the date of his assumption of charge.

India ended their 2023 World Cadet Wrestling Championships, meant for under-17 grapplers, with a total of 11 medals, including a gold, at Istanbul, Turkey.
Savita, who entered the event as the defending champion, won the only gold medal for India at Istanbul in the women’s 61kg weight division.

India finished sixth in the men’s freestyle and fourth in men’s Greco-Roman team rankings as well.
It was the women’s freestyle where India shone best by finishing third, only behind Japan and USA, with 118 points in the team rankings.
