Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, launched four apps—e-Sakshya, Nyaya Setu, Nyaya Shruti, and e-Summon—in Chandigarh on 4 August 2024.
The event was attended by Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, and Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
The apps are designed to support the implementation of three new criminal laws in India.
The new criminal laws are:
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, replacing the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, replacing the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
These laws were implemented nationwide starting from 1 July 2024.
Forensic investigation is mandatory in criminal cases where the minimum sentence is 7 years.
Amit Shah stated that with full implementation, judgments to the Supreme Court could be expected within three years.

The Department of Post released four commemorative stamps for the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris, France (26 July to 11 August 2024).
The stamps were released at a function in New Delhi on 5 August 2024.
The stamps were released by Union Minister of Communication Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
The function was attended by Paris Olympics bronze medallist shooter Sarabjot Singh, steeplechase athlete Sudha Singh, and former cricketer Akash Chopra.
Sarabjot Singh won a bronze medal in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The stamps depict five Olympic sports: Javelin Throw, Field Hockey, Sailing, and Table Tennis.

The Indian Air Force has approved the production of 200 Astra Mk-1 missiles for the Su-30 MKI and Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.
The clearance followed a visit by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Hyderabad, Telangana.
The Astra Mk-1 is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited.
Astra Mk-1 is an air-to-air beyond visual range (BVR) missile with a range of 80-110 km and a maximum speed of 4.5 Mach.
The missile can be fired from the Su-30 MKI, LCA Tejas, and Indian Navy’s Mig-29K.
It is designed to destroy aerial targets such as fighter aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones.
DRDO is also developing the Astra Mk-2, which has an increased range of 130-160 km due to its dual pulse rocket motor.

India Approves ₹5,000 Crore for Nepal’s Hydropower Project.
India has approved ₹5,792 crore for the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project in Nepal, managed by Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN).
The project, set for completion in five years, will be located in Sankhuwasabha District, Nepal, with four units of 167.25 MW each.
SJVN is also working on the 900 MW Arun 3 Hydropower Project, expected to finish by end of 2024.
