The GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) Division of the Union Ministry of Culture has organised a three-day (1-3 August 2024) “State Museum Conclave on the upcoming Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum” in New Delhi.
The ‘State Museum Conclave on the upcoming Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum’ was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on 1 August 2024.
As part of the Central Vista Redevelopment project, the central government will establish the Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum in the North and South Block area, located near Raisina Hill in New Delhi.
The proposed museum spread over 1,54,000 sqm, will be the largest museum in the world.
The Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum is being developed in partnership with France.

The Indian shooting contingent bagged the third medal for India at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games.
Shooter Swapnil Kusale of Maharstra won a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 Positions final played at the National Shooting Center in Châteauroux, Paris, on 1 August 2024.
He finished his match with 451.4 to settle for a bronze medal.
The gold medal was won by the world record holder Liu Yukun of China with 463.6 points, while the silver was won by Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish with 461.3 points.
Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish had also won the silver medal in the same event at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Swapnil Kusale’s bronze medal was the 3rd medal for India in the Rifle event in Olympic history.
Swapnil Kusale is the first Indian to win a medal in the 50m rifle 3 Positions event in the Summer Olympics.

In a significant step towards enhancing women’s roles in the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Sadhna Saxena Nair took over as the Director General of Medical Services (Army) on August 1, 2024.
She has become the first woman to occupy this esteemed position within the Indian Army’s Medical Services.
Lt. General Sadhna Saxena Nair comes from a distinguished family with a legacy of service in the Indian Armed Forces, spanning three generations and seventy years.
Before joining the post of Director General of Medical Services (Army), she was the Director General of Hospital Services (Armed Forces). She also has the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as the Director General of Hospital Services (Armed Forces).

Kashmir City received the Certificate of World Craft City from the World Crafts Council International in a ceremony held in Srinagar, capital of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceremony was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Sa’ad Hani Al-Qaddumi, President of the World Crafts Council.
Earlier in June 2024, the World Craft Council announced its decision to include Kashmir in its World Craft City list.
Kashmir is the fourth Indian city to be included in the World Craft City list of the World Crafts Council.
Jaipur of Rajasthan and Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu were included in 2015, and Mysore in Karnataka was included in 2018.
While Jaipur, Mamallapuram, and Kashmir have received the World Craft City tag, Mamallapuram has been recognised for its stone craft (World Craft City for Stone Carving).
In 2021, Kashmir was recognised as UNESCO’s Creative City under Crafts and Folks Art.

Former Indian cricket player and coach of the Indian men’s cricket team Anshuman Gaekwad died on 31 July 2024.
Anshuman Gaekwad made his debut for India against the West Indies in a 1974 Test match played at Eden Garden, Kolkata.
After retirement, Anshuman Gaekwad served as coach of Indian men’s cricket in two stints between 1997 to 2000.
In 2018, the BCCI honoured him with the C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was started by the BCCI in 1974 and is the highest award given by the BCCI to a former Indian cricketer.
In 2023, his autobiography ‘Guts Amid Bloodbath’ was released.

India will host its first multinational air exercise, ‘Tarang Shakti 2024’, starting August 6th in Sular, Tamil Nadu.
The exercise will occur in two phases: the first from August 6th to 14th in Sular, Tamil Nadu, and the second from August 29th to September 14th in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Around 30 countries will participate, with ten countries bringing their fighter aircraft: Australia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, the UAE, the UK, the USA, and Singapore.
Eighteen other countries will attend as observers.
India will showcase its indigenous fighter aircraft and equipment, including the Tejas, Rafale, Mirage 2000, Jaguar, and MIG 29.
The exercise will include flying and ground training, defense exhibitions, and cultural exchange programs.
Defence personnel from participating countries will visit Indian tech companies.
Over 50 countries were invited to participate in the exercise.
