Bringing laurels to the country the movie Champaran Mutton produced by a pupil of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune has reached to the semifinals for the prestigious Students Academy Awards category.

On July 31, 2023, a meeting was held between the Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture & Food Industries of Moldova, Mr Vladimir Bolea, at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi.

The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture between India and Moldova, two countries that have enjoyed close and friendly diplomatic relations for 31 years.

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department will extend its Vaasippu Iyyakam programme, aimed at promoting reading among students of Classes 4 to 9, across all the government schools in the state from September.

Presently, the project is on in government schools in 11 unions in 11 districts of the state.
The books provided to the students under the programme are classified into four categories — ‘Nuzhai’ (Enter), ‘Nada’ (Walk), ‘Oadu’ (Run) and ‘Para’ (Fly). These are based on the complexities of the stories in these books.

In a significant development for Axis Bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that it has given its approval for the appointment of N S Vishwanathan as the non-executive (part-time) chairman of the bank.

NS Vishwanathan’s role as the chairman will become effective from October 27, 2023, or the date of approval by the Reserve Bank of India, whichever comes first. This marks a significant step in Vishwanathan’s journey with Axis Bank, as he was earlier appointed as an independent director by the lender in May.
Vishwanathan brings with him a wealth of experience as a career central banker. Having joined the RBI in 1981 as a Direct Recruit Officer, he steadily climbed the ranks and ultimately retired as the Deputy Governor of the RBI in March 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award in Pune. He said that he was honoured to receive a prize named after Tilak, who was at the forefront of the freedom struggle, and added that he would donate his prize money of Rs 1 lakh to the Namami Gange project.

State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday said it has raised Rs 10,000 crore through long-term infrastructure bonds, offering a coupon rate of 7.54 per cent.
The Tenure of these bonds is 15 years.

The proceeds of bonds, having 15-year maturity, will be utilized for funding infrastructure and the affordable housing segment.

The issue attracted bids worth Rs 21,698 crore and was oversubscribed by 4.34 times against the base issue size.
The total number of bids received was 115 from various categories of investors including provident funds, pension funds, insurance companies, mutual funds and corporates.

Seven products from across India, including four from Rajasthan, were given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai. Internet shutdowns are growing at an alarming rate in India. The country was second in the world in the first half of 2023, according to SurfShark’s half-yearly analysis of internet shutdowns worldwide.

An internet shutdown is an intentional disruption of internet-based communications, rendering them inaccessible or effectively unavailable, for a specific population, location, or mode of access, often to exert control over the flow of information.

Of the 42 internet shutdown events that occurred worldwide, nine were in India, between January 1 and June 30, 2023. Iran topped with 14 cases in that period. Pakistan came third with three cases. With the top three being Asian countries, the continent accounted for 71 per cent of all new cases.

Former Uruguay defender Diego Godin retired from professional soccer on Monday, ending a 20-year career at age 37.
Godin played in four World Cups and spent much of his club career in Spain, notably at Atlético Madrid from 2010 to 2019. This season, he played in Argentina for Velez Sarsfield.
Godin played more than 600 professional matches and scored 38 goals in his career. He lifted 10 titles, including two at the Europa League.
He played for Uruguay at the past four World Cups.

Microsoft has appointed Puneet Chandok as corporate vice president of Microsoft India and South Asia region. He will resume the operational responsibilities from Anant Maheshwari on September 1, 2023.
