In a first, two Japanese firms recently unveiled their respective laser systems which will be used to shoot down incoming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones, reported the United States-based online newspaper The Diplomat.
This comes amid concerns about an increased presence of Chinese and Russian militaries near Japan which has seemingly prompted Tokyo to ramp up investment in such technology.

The companies in question are the Japan-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) who displayed this technology at the DSEI Japan 2023 show, held in Chiba Prefecture.

Walmart Inc-backed digital payments firm PhonePe Pvt Ltd launched an app called Pincode on the Indian government’s open network on Tuesday to strengthen its e-commerce business.
The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) was launched last year to enable small merchants and local stores across India to access processes and technologies typically deployed by large e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Walmart.
Pincode, which will focus on hyperlocal commerce, is currently live only in Bengaluru and available on the Google Play Store and the App Store, PhonePe said in a statement.

Skyroot Aerospace, India’s pioneering private rocket builder, achieved a major milestone by successfully test-firing an advanced fully 3D-printed cryogenic engine for 200 seconds, a record for the company.

The endurance test of ‘Dhawan-II’ which demonstrated impressive performance results, was carried out at Solar Industries propulsion test facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra, using Skyroot’s indigenously developed mobile cryogenic engine test pad.
This achievement follows the November 2022 launch of Vikram–S, which made Skyroot the first Indian private company to send a rocket into space.

Former British professional boxer and Olympic medallist Amir Khan has been banned from all sports for two years for anti-doping violations, the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) announced.
According to UKAD, a sample collected from Khan on February 19, 2022, after his loss against Kell Brook at the Manchester Arena, tested positive for Ostarine, an anabolic agent which is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2022 Prohibited List.
Last April, UKAD said it notified Khan that he may have committed Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) and issued him with a provisional suspension from all Code-compliant sports on the same date.
Khan was subsequently charged with two violations of anti-doping rules for the presence of a prohibited substance and the use of a prohibited substance.

The world-famous ‘Basohli Painting’ – popular for its miniature art style from Kathua district has obtained the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag following approval by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Jammu, officials aid.

The products from UT of Jammu and Kashmir have been included in the list of 33 products that received the GI tag on 31 March 2023.

Pertinently, Geographical Indications (GI) is a form of Intellectual Property right that identifies goods originating from a specific geographical location and having distinct nature, quality, and characteristics linked to that location.
