Jharkhand minister Jagarnath Mahto passed away at 56 in Chennai. He was the four-time JMM MLA from Dumri in the Giridih district, Jharkhand.
He was also known as Tiger Mahto or Tiger Jagarnath Da.
He was airlifted to MGM Chennai after his health condition suddenly deteriorated and he did not show any sign of improvement at Paras Hospital in the Jharkhand capital on March 14.
Mahto had been suffering from lung problems after he underwent lung transplantation after being infected by COVID-19. His health has not been stable since then.

Amit Kshatriya, a decorated Indian-American software and robotics engineer was appointed as the first head of NASA’s newly-established Moon to Mars Programme that will help the agency ensure a long-term lunar presence needed to prepare for humanity’s next giant leap to the Red Planet.

The Jal Jeevan Mission has reached 60% of its countrywide target, adding 23.4 million households in the fiscal year ended 2022-23, At the start of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a baseline survey showed that less than 17% or 32.3 million households had a tap connection.

Senior vice-president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo on Thursday took charge as National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president after ‘incumbent’ Raninder Singh went on a “prolonged leave”.
The Sports Ministry had issued a directive that heads of national sports federations (NSFs) cannot hold office for more than 12 years as per the National Sports Code, following which Raninder, who was re-elected NRAI president in September 2021, went on leave.
The ministry pointed out last month that Raninder had completed 12 years as president — from 29 December 2010 to 29 December 2022 — and as per the code, he cannot continue as NRAI chief any further.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 10 and 11 to officially launch the ‘Vibrant Villages Program’ (VVP) in the village of Kibithoo, which is located close to the Indo-China border.
The visit comes amid tension between the two countries over border areas.
The home ministry announced that the Center has sanctioned the VVP to the tune of Rs 4,800 crore, including Rs 2,500 crore specifically for road connectivity for fiscal years 2022-23 to 2025-26.
2,967 villages in 46 blocks in 19 districts along the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development under the VVP, a programme sponsored by the central government.

To mark the completion of 50 years of ‘Project Tiger’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka. PM Modi, who is on a two-day south India tour in Telangana, Tamil Nadu and poll-bound Karnataka launched the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) as well as released the tiger census data at Mysuru today.
So, what does the tiger census data say? Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the latest tiger census figures on Sunday, to mark Project Tiger completing 50 years earlier this month. As of 2022, India has 3,167 tigers, up from 2,967 in 2018, when the last census data was released.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a two-day ‘Gaj Utsav-2023’ on April 7 at the Kaziranga National Park High School’s playground field in Assam.

The President also flag off the ‘Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition-2023’. President Murmu attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court as the chief guest and also launched a mobile app “Bhoroxa” designed for the safety of women and the elderly.
The Gauhati High Court was established on 5th April 1948 for the seven North Eastern States.

On April 7, 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a 54 feet tall statue of Lord Hanuman at Sarangpur temple in the Botad district of Gujarat.
The idol is 54 feet tall, making it one of the tallest idols of Lord Hanuman in the country.
Apart from unveiling the statue, Amit Shah also inaugurated the temple’s new community kitchen on April 7, 2023.
The new community kitchen can serve around 4,000 pilgrims at a time, making it easier for devotees to get food during their visit to the temple.

Uttar Pradesh’s Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre (JCBC) in Maharajganj district, the world’s first conservation and breeding centre built and designed exclusively for the conservation of the Asian king vulture, is ready to be inaugurated.
The Asian king vulture is critically endangered and protected under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The JCBC is spread over 1.5 hectares in the Gorakhpur forest division and is a state-of-the-art centre, worth around Rs 15 crore, with multiple aviaries (cages for birds) for vultures, like breeding and holding aviaries, nursery aviaries for juveniles, hospital and recovery aviaries for those needing medical help.
A food processing centre, where food for vultures will be prepared and checked before being fed to the birds and an incubation centre to rear eggs artificially to ensure 100 per cent results are other features.
The objective behind setting up the centre is to breed king vultures in captivity and release them in the wild to maintain a sustainable population of the species.
It is a 15-year project which aims to raise at least 40 vultures.

Brazil has announced it will officially rejoin the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), from which it withdrew in 2019.
“As Brazil resumes its main international alliances, it will once again join the Union of South American Nations,” the country’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It added that the measure will take effect on May 6 and “places the country back in the group created during President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s second administration”, reports Xinhua news agency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express train on April 12 through video conferencing. According to officials, the train will run from Jaipur to New Delhi on the first day.
On an inaugural day, the train will run from Jaipur to Delhi instead of Ajmer.
According to sources, this train will run from Jaipur on the day of the inauguration, while on normal days the train will operate between Ajmer-Delhi. The final schedule of the train including the timing of the train, days in the week, stoppage and the fare will be determined shortly.

India-France Business Summit, commemorating 25 years of India-France Friendship, will be held in Paris on April 11.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal along with Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate of Foreign Trade, Government of France, will co-chair the summit.
Officials said that the summit will focus on themes including building a green future, emerging technologies, defence cooperation and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific regions.
Goyal is scheduled to meet with French business leaders across various sectors and will attend a CEO’s roundtable. The Minister will be paying an official visit to France and Italy from April 11 to 13. The Minister would be accompanied by a delegation of top Indian CEOs.
