Tata Steel is putting up a 10 tonnes-per-day pilot plant at its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha to produce methanol from blast furnace flue gases. If successful, this has the potential to open an avenue for substantial production of methanol in India.
The objective of the project is to test how the carbon dioxide from the blast furnace in steel mills could be combined with hydrogen from electrolysers to make methanol.

Former Vice-Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sandeep Singh (Retd) has been appointed as the new Military Advisor to the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
The officer is expected to take over his new appointment on April 24. Vayu Sena Medal in 2006, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2013 and Param Vishisht Sewa Medal in 2022.

• Sonam Wangchuk has been awarded the prestigious Santokba Humanitarian Award for his contributions to society.

The first Indian Institute of Technology to be set up in Africa will come up in October in Tanzania. IIT Madras will set up its first International campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania, with plans to start the classes by October 2023, said its Director V Kamakoti in his presidential address at IIT Madras’ 64th Institute Day.
In February, a team of five professors from IIT Madras visited Tanzania and held discussions with various officials on starting the campus.

ISRO will launch Singapore’s TeLEOS-2 satellite using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.
TeLEOS-1, Singapore’s first commercial Earth observation satellite, was launched by ISRO in 2015 and since then, ISRO has launched nine satellites for Singapore.
TeLEOS-2 is an Earth observation satellite built by ST Engineering that will carry a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) capable of providing 1-metre resolution data.
The satellite will have a 500 GB onboard recorder and 800 Mbps downlink.

China successfully launched the Fengyun-3 meteorological satellite using Chang Zheng 4B carrier rocket from Gansu Province.
The primary objective of the Fengyun-3 satellite is to monitor and provide information on severe weather conditions, especially heavy rainfall, which can cause natural disasters such as floods and landslides.
This was the 471st mission for the Chang Zheng rocket family. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC)
It is a state-owned organisation that serves as the primary contractor for China’s space program.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has informed that it will take part in Exercise INIOCHOS-23, which will be held at the Andravida Air Base in Greece from April 24 to May 4.
It is a multi-national air exercise hosted by the Hellenic Air Force. The Indian Air Force will participate with four Su-30 MKI and two C-17 aircraft.
Other Nations: Cyprus, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Spain, Austria, and the USA.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Army and Tezpur University for training the Indian Army personnel in the Chinese language.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) signed an agreement to set up its first overseas office in Abu Dhabi Global Market.

Nagaland has got the approval to set up its first medical college since it got statehood in 1963, Health and Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak .
The medical college will begin its journey with 100 MBBS students from the academic session 2023-24.
We received the approval for a 100 MBBS seat medical college from the National Medical Commission, Medical Assessment & Rating Board (NMC, MARB) on Tuesday, Konyak told a press conference here.
The state government will send the acceptance letter within a week to enable the MARB to issue the Letter of Permission for the academic year 2023-24.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that a multipurpose indoor stadium is being constructed in Shillong and it would be the largest multipurpose indoor stadium in the northeastern region.

India has recently signed Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in nursing with Singapore which would allow nurses trained in seven nursing institutions across India to gain employment in the South-East Asian country.
MRAs pave the way for the recognition of the professional bodies of one country by the other. Regulatory bodies of various professional services like engineering, nursing, accountancy and architecture are encouraged to enter into these pacts.
These pacts are part of free trade agreements (FTAs) that India has signed with several regions, including Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. India and Singapore entered into FTA in August 2005.

The 5th edition of HUN- a Thadou Cultural Festival 2023 kicked off at Thomas Ground in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

The Tamil Nadu assembly on Friday passed a bill that will allow factories to extend daily working hours to 12 hours per day.
