India’s annual Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation declined to a 29-month low of 1.34 per cent in March 2023 as input prices continued to moderate, government data showed on Monday. This is the 10th straight month of decline in WPI-based inflation.
The WPI inflation data was 3.85 per cent in February, 4.73 per cent in January 2023, and 14.63 per cent in March 2022.
The food index inflation eased to 2.32 per cent in March from 2.76 per cent in February. For the primary articles segment, the inflation rate cooled to 2.40 per cent in March 2023 versus 3.28 per cent in February.

Utsa Patnaik, a renowned economist of national and international repute, has been selected for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2023.
The award is given every year by the Malcolm & Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust. The prestigious national award honours outstanding social scientists selected by a national-level jury specially constituted for this purpose, from the nominations received.
This year, the jury unanimously selected Prof. Utsa Patnaik, according to a press release.
The award will be given with a citation and prize money of ₹2 lakh at a function to be held in Chennai. The date of this event will be announced shortly by the Trust.

Hyderabad’s Abdul Azeem, one of the finest openers in domestic cricket, passed away here on Tuesday. Azeem, who was on dialysis for quite some time, was 62 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Widely acknowledged as one of those batters in the 80s and 90s who re-defined the attitude of an opener with blazing knocks akin to the T20 innings of the contemporary era, Azeem had to his credit a triple century against Tamil Nadu in the 1986 Ranji season.

Chennai will host the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament from August 3-12, 2023, as informed by Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary-General of Hockey India.
India will be hosting the event for the first time The tournament will feature the top six teams from India, Pakistan, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan and China.
This is the seventh edition of the top-level international hockey event. The game will serve as a precursor to the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September 2023.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has collaborated with the State Bank of India for the National Common Mobility Card or Singara Chennai Card as part of the multimodal and ticket integration plan.
The card, which can be used on metro trains now and on MTC buses and suburban trains later, can also be used in other metros.
The card can be had for free on the production of a government identity proof.
It can be preloaded with cash from 100 to 2,000, with a 1.8% commission charged by SBI.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Agriculture Production Department is all set to launch Kisan Sampark Abhiyan, a programme aimed at the overall welfare of farmers across the Union Territory.

AIR Correspondent reports that the Abhiyan will be launched across 3565 panchayats in J&K from the 24th of April 2023 and will last for four months.
The programme aims to involve Panchayati Raj Institutions in the scheme and celebrate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav as part of the programme.
To ensure that the programme is successful, 2400 resource persons have been identified and trained for all districts.

45 educational videos in multiple languages have been created to educate farmers, and pamphlets have been printed in Urdu, Hindi and English.

Energy solutions company Jakson Green on Tuesday announced that the company is developing a Green Hydrogen fuelling station at Badarpur, New Delhi for a major power company in India.
The project is expected to offset 3.7 tons of CO2 per day once operational and will be built in record time.
The green hydrogen fuelling station involves the establishment of a specialised and dedicated facility that will use the green energy generated on-site by a renewable hybrid to generate, compress, store, and dispense GH, utilising a hydrogen purification system.

The Sixth meeting of the Steering Committee on matters related to the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 was held today.
