Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received the certificate for Geographical Indication Registration Certificate for Asomiya Gamosa (Assamese cloth to wipe body). The certificate was awarded by the Controller General of Patent, Designs and Trademarks and Registrar of GI Registry Dr Unnat P Pandit at a function in Guwahati’s Sarusajai stadium.
A total of eight types of gamosas, namely Uka or Xadharan Gamosa, Phulam Gamosa, Bihuwan, Tiani or Pani Gamosa, Anakata Gamosa, Telos Gamosa, Dora Boron or Jor Gamosa and Gossain Gamosa, have been included in the GI registration.

Australian cricket is mourning the death of Aunty Faith Thomas, the first Aboriginal woman to play Test cricket for Australia, who passed away at the weekend aged 90.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IIT-M) have developed a portable device as compact as a digital blood pressure monitor to assess the health and age of blood vessels and thus help in early screening for cardiovascular diseases.

At a time when cardiac events are on an increase, the device called Artsens can be used in routine medical examinations by even non-experts to assess and predict vascular health, the researchers said.

Developed at the Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC) at IIT-Madras, it is a non-imaging proprietary probe attached to a computing platform and is at an advanced TRL level (technology readiness level).

The Tamil Nadu government has chosen Ernst & Young, a multinational consultancy firm, as a consultant for the financial and operational analysis of 50 selected Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the State.

MRF Ltd has emerged as the second-strongest tyre brand in the world according to the latest report by Brand Finance on the ‘Most Valuable and Strongest Tyre Brands’ in the world.
MRF has scored high in almost all parameters and is also featured as the second fastest-growing tyre brand in the world. It scored 83.2 out of 100 in brand strength and was awarded a AAA- brand rating.

The report, which also names MRF as the most valued Indian tyre brand, says that it scored high in the Sustainability Perception Value and is the only Indian tyre manufacturer to be featured in the top 10.
