A Gigantic Ocean 700 km under the Earth Discovered by Scientists.
This subterranean reservoir is located 700 kilometers below the surface of the Earth in a rock called ringwoodite.
This discovery was made possible by using a network of 2000 seismographs across the United States.
These devices detected seismic waves produced by over 500 earthquakes, which slowed down upon interacting with moist rock in the Earth’s core, indicating the presence of this vast water repository.
The properties of a mineral called ringwoodite have been detailed in a scientific paper published in 2014.

The US, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines launched their first joint naval exercise to project power in the South China Sea.
The South China Sea is recognized as one of the most heavily trafficked maritime routes globally, playing a pivotal role as a conduit for international trade and logistics.
There is tension between various countries located in the South China Sea to establish their dominance in this region.
The root of the dispute in this area is the Spratly and Paracel Islands located in the South China Sea, because both these islands are rich in crude oil and natural gas.

The first-ever tri-service armed forces planning conference called’ Parivartan Chintan’ was held in New Delhi on 8 April 2024.
The conference was organized by the Union Ministry of Defence.
The meeting of the chief of the three armed forces, the Army, Navy, and Air Force, was held in the background of the attempt in the country to set up a unified, integrated theatre command, combining all the three wings of the armed forces.
The first tri-service planning conference was chaired by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan.
In the military, theatre means a specific geographical location, which could be on land, air or sea. These identified areas are or could become areas of conflict in the future.

Indian-origin neurologist Dr Ashwini Keshavan has been made a part of Britain’s world-class research team.
This team has been entrusted with the task of conducting research towards detecting dementia through blood tests and collecting more evidence in this direction.
Dementia is a syndrome. It is usually of a chronic nature – leading to a decline in cognitive function, in contrast to the usual results of the biological theory of aging.
It impacts memory, cognitive functions like reasoning and comprehension, spatial awareness, mathematical abilities, learning capacity, language skills, and decision-making processes.
However, consciousness is not affected due to dementia.
Of the total deaths due to this, 65% are women. Disability-adjusted life years due to dementia are approximately 60% longer in women than in men.

According to this report, China has overtaken India as the primary importer of Russian crude oil through sea routes.
In March 2024, China imported 1.82 million barrels per day (bpd) of Russian crude oil by sea.
India had been the major importer of seaborne Russian crude oil for about eighteen months.
India has been the primary importer of Urals sour-grade oil from Russia along with other grades such as Varandi, Siberian Light, and Sokol from Sakhalin.
Despite pressure from Western countries, the Indian government has continued to buy oil from Russia due to India’s significant demand for oil and Moscow’s concessional offers.
