Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Tarundeep Rai, three members of the Indian men’s recurve team, took home the silver medal at Stage 1 of the Archery World Cup 2023 on Sunday in Antalya, Turkey.

Dhiraj Bommadevara, who represented India in the semi-finals on Sunday, was defeated by Moldova’s Dan Olaru by a score of 6-4 to advance to the bronze medal match. Dhiraj blew a 4-0 lead at one point but recovered later.

Dhiraj Bommadevara overcame senior compatriots Tarundeep Rai and Brady Ellison, a former world champion and Olympic medalist, to advance to the semifinals.

India finished Turkey’s meet with four medals–two gold, one silver, and one bronze–after winning the two medals on Sunday.

Guyana and India on Saturday signed an air services agreement to facilitate direct flights between both countries.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, and Indian High Commissioner, Dr K.J. Srinivasa.

This means that Guyanese-owned airlines will have direct market access to international airports in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Presently, there is no direct flight between Guyana and India, however, this agreement puts in place the legal framework that opens market access for airlines of both states to operate and enhance competitive air transport services, trade, and economic growth.

In a meeting with the Wildlife Advisory Board, Madhya Pradesh CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan instructed the development of the Gandhisagar Sanctuary as a habitat for cheetahs in the next six months.

Following the four successful rounds of bidding, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched the 5th round of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) to further enhance the connectivity to remote and regional areas of the country and achieve last-mile connectivity.

Key Features of UDAN 5.0 are as follows:
• This round of UDAN focuses on Category-2 (20-80 seats) and Category-3 (>80 seats).
• The earlier stage length cap of 600 km is waived off and there is no restriction on the distance between the origin and destination of the flight.
• Viability gap funding (VGF) to be provided will be capped at 600 km stage length for both Priority and Non-Priority areas which was earlier capped at 500 km.
• No predetermined routes would be offered. Only Network and Individual Route Proposal proposed by airlines will be considered.
• The airlines would be required to submit an action/business plan after 2 months from the issuance of LoA wherein they submit their aircraft acquisition plan/availability of aircraft, crew, slots, etc. at the time of the Technical Proposal.
• The exact route will not be awarded to a single airline more than once, whether in different networks or the same network.
• Exclusivity will be withdrawn if the average quarterly PLF is higher than 75% for four continuous quarters, to prevent exploitation of the monopoly on a route.
• 25% of the Performance Guarantee to be encashed for each month of delay up to 4 months, to further incentivize quick operationalization.

India is set to surpass China as the world’s most populous nation, with almost 3 million more people by the middle of this year, data released by the United Nations on Wednesday showed.
Based on the projections, India’s population by mid-year will reach 1.4286 billion, compared to China’s 1.4257 billion – 2.9 million fewer – according to the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) “State of World Population Report” for 2023.
UN officials have said it is not possible to determine the exact date for the shift, due to “uncertainty” about the data coming from China and India. India’s last census was in 2011 and the most recent, scheduled in 2021, was delayed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
